Peter Hook and Ministry cover Captain Beyond’s ‘Dancing Madly Backwards’

Peter Hook and Ministry have teamed up for a double A-side split single vinyl release where Hooky and Al each give their interpretation of 70s Space Rock band Captain Beyond’s Dancing Madly Backwards, the first track off of the band’s 1972 debut LP.

The Peter Hook version definitely imbues a hypnotic post-punk vibe turning the early 70’s track into something that could have been made 7 years later. This is some of Peter Hook’s best material since Monaco’s What Do You Want From Me.

With perhaps the additional hint of a full LP—Hooky had mentioned earlier this year in an interview with Trebuchet that he had been planning this cover when asked if he would be recording any new music:

“I just done a track with one of Kraftwerk. I’ve also done another track, a cover version (funnily enough) called ‘Dancing Madly Backwards’ by Captain Beyond. It’s a song from the ’70s from a record label in America. It turned out really, really well. The guys phoned me up and said. ‘Fancy doing an LP in that style?’ [laughs]. I do a lot of new music, but I’m pretty shit at letting people know about it.”

Limited to 300 copies in a red-vinyl 12-inch
