NYC Synth Duo Ghost Cop Showcase Their Love with 70s and 80s Horror in “ENHANCE”

NYC Synth duo Ghost Cop are back with another fantastic video from their debut LP released last November, One Weird Trick.

The music video for their latest single “ENHANCE”, despite its title’s possible allusions to Blade Runner, in fact, takes its cue from low-budget horror movies from the 70s and 80s, reflecting the band members Lucy Swope and Sean Dack’s love of era and genre of cinema.

To create the right visuals and mood to pair with the synth-heavy, spine-tingling, John Carpenter-esque song, the New York-based duo looked for inspiration from classics like Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead I & II, and Halloween, as well as newer genre revivals like It Follows and Stranger Things. The video was shot on location in Boothbay Harbor, Maine using a stripped down rig consisting of a DSLR camera coupled with an assortment of vintage lenses.

The resulting expertly shot film is a terrifying experience, elevating the music to the bone-chilling heights of Goblin’s work on Suspira, Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells”—the theme used for The Exorcist, and of course, John Carpenter’s Halloween. for which our protagonist Lucy resembles a combination of both that film’s heroine, Jamie Lee Curtis, as well as Mia Farrow via Rosemary’s Baby.

“ENHANCE” is the second single off the band’s debut LP ONE WEIRD TRICK, self-released on their newly formed label Observed Phenomena in November. The release included a limited edition USB and zine featuring short fiction by author Tim Maughan which sold out in pre-order. The album is available digitally on bandcamp and iTunes and streaming on Spotify.
