Today, the NYC-based dream pop act Mahogany have announced their latest release —a 12” single featuring A Scaffold on the A-side and Polyvalence on the flip. This release offers a sneak peek at their upcoming EP, Cumulative Power, slated for a fall release. Both tracks showcase the ethereal vocals of singer-guitarist Jaclyn Slimm, backed by the intricate bass, drums, electronics, and multi-layered 12-string guitar work crafted by band founder Andrew Prinz.
Blending post-punk, shoegaze, disco, and classical influences into forward-thinking, multi-dimensional compositions, Mahogany—comprising the duo of Andrew Prinz and Jaclyn Slimm—creates a unique soundscape. Their fusion of twin 12-string guitars, robust bass lines, tightly sequenced rhythms, and a mix of synthesizers and samplers results in an enveloping experience they’ve dubbed the Hypercube.
“(The songs) speak to a romance of perseverance and canny, defiant idealism — breathlessly driven, yet polished and adroitly serene,” says Prinz.
In a haunting exploration of self and solitude, the lyrics to A Scaffold navigate the labyrinth of youthful isolation and the ceaseless quest for authenticity amidst a backdrop of societal expectations. The song stitches together vivid threads of existential angst, personal growth, and the elusive chase for creative expression, painting a stark portrait of a soul in search of meaning.
Polyvalence weaves a complex web of internal struggle and resolve, using repetition to underscore the persistent challenges of self-definition and mental rigor. Themes of paralysis, inevitability, and victory intertwine, reflecting on the pressures that shape and sometimes pace our deepest joys and gravest battles.

Mahogany’s impressive catalogue includes two highly praised albums, The Dream of the Modern Day and Connectivity!, alongside a host of singles, EPs, and tracks that appear on the anthology Memory Column: Early Works and Rarities 1996-2004. Besides their own projects, they’ve put their stamp on productions, designs, and remixes for artists like Ulrich Schnauss, The Veldt, and Lovesliescrushing. Live, Mahogany has shared stages with a diverse lineup of artists, including Anika, Jonathan Bree, Vampire Weekend, Spoon, Bloc Party, Interpol, Luna, and Broadcast, showcasing their dynamic presence across various music scenes.
