In a world that often feels awash in chaos and uncertainty, the need for empowerment and agency resonates deeply, especially for the youth who inherit its challenges. The contemporary landscape, marked by its tumultuous rhythm, affects not just the global narrative, but seeps into the very personal spaces of our lives. Especially for young women, this era presents unique confrontations, their voices echoing in the vast corridors of collective experiences. Amidst such disarray, the hunt for positivity becomes both a quest and a necessity. Silver linings appear elusive, yet the human spirit, resilient as ever, searches tirelessly for an anchor, a beacon, to catalyze transformative change.
In NYC artist Eleanor Kelly’s latest offering, “Sentiments,” she delves deep into a compelling feminist narrative reminiscent of the Lilith Fair epoch from the 90s. Intertwining a spirited bass with overlapping synthesizers, a touch of hazy guitar, resonant bass undertones, and emphatic drumbeats, the track brims with vivacity. We hear shades of Garbage, PJ Harvey, and Placebo, especially, delivered with the gravitas of more modern sensibilities.
“Sentiments was written as a song of empowerment,” says Kelly. “I originally wrote these lyrics as an outlet for my frustration with the current state of the world, which also has a major impact on my personal life as a young woman on this planet (as well as that of many others). The lyrics deal with a faltering reality, where it seems hard to find the positive things to hold on to, and to find the ability to make a change.”

“While all my previous songs have been produced solely by me, I worked with co-producer, Harper James, on the final stages of this song,” she says. “Harper also mixed and mastered the track.”
“Sentiments” is also accompanied by an animé music video, which was made using Kaiber, an AI software.

Eleanor Kelly, with roots in Belgium and Israel, now graces New York City with her distinctive musical presence, fueled by aromatic coffee, feline affections, a penchant for 80s synthesizers, and the raw energy of metal. From an early age, she was immersed in music, composing tunes that frequently drew inspiration from her personal history and her surroundings—particularly the politically charged climate of her homeland. At a precocious 13, Kelly’s audacity led her to present a track to the illustrious Eurovision Song Contest. Though it garnered praise, the piece’s political undertones resulted in a regretful decline.
Throughout her formative years, Eleanor Kelly donned various musical hats before embarking on her latest solo endeavor in the latter part of 2022. Come February 2023, she unveiled her debut single, “Daisy Chain,” a candid and straightforward blend of ethereal synths, assertive drums, and the warm embrace of hazy guitar and bass work. The likes of Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Garbage, and Deftones have been instrumental in shaping her sound. Yet, her transcontinental lineage plays an unsung hero, infusing her pieces with delicate nuances of both European and Middle Eastern melodies.
Presently, Kelly is deep in the throes of crafting her inaugural EP, poised for a 2024 release. Simultaneously, the New York circuit awaits her, as she gears up for an array of live performances throughout the city.
