Nick Cave gets a graphic novel biography

Nick Cave is getting another addition to his strange and post-modern biographical material. Following 2014’s documentary musical 20,000 Days on Earth—this time the Caveman is chronicled via a graphic novel written by Reinhard Kleist.

The 328 page book is titled Nick Cave: Mercy On Me. Upon it’s paneled pages it employs a cast of characters drawn from Cave’s music and writing, capturing his childhood in Australia through his time with The Birthday Party, and international success of The Bad Seeds. Originally written in German, this edition and features an English translation by Michael Waaler.

“Reinhard Kleist, master graphic novelist and myth-maker has – yet again – blown apart the conventions of the graphic novel by concocting a terrifying conflation of Cave songs, biographical half-truths and complete fabulations and creating a complex, chilling and completely bizarre journey into Cave World. Closer to the truth than any biography, that’s for sure! But for the record, I never killed Elisa Day.” — Nick Cave

Nick Cave: Mercy On Me is out September 7th via First Second/SelfMadeHero; pre-order it here.
