New Zealand Post-Punk Outfit Ringlets Debut New Single “Sever”

Auckland-based quartet Ringlets has just announced their latest single, ‘Sever,’ now available through Mutual Skies. Since 2021, Ringlets has been providing their unique brand of post-punk to the upper North Island community in New Zealand. With an impressively resilient and machine-tested rhythm section comprised of A. Poulsen and A. Grey, as well as two of Auckland’s leading lyrical and melodic advisors, L. Towers and L. Reynolds, Ringlets is quickly establishing a strong reputation.

“Sever” is an ambitious mix of jazzy avant-garde breaks, reminiscent of both Yes and The Police, and catchy, upbeat post-punk rhythms in the style of Franz Ferdinand or OK Go, with a touch of early Wire. The song takes us on a meandering sonic odyssey, with its unexpected shifts in time signature and stunning call-and-response vocals that capture the listener’s attention. Overall, “Sever” is a complex and introspective piece that showcases Ringlets’ impressive musical range and versatility.

The talented individuals behind Ringlets have been honing their craft in the Auckland music scene since their high school days, but it is their current project that truly stands out as their most commanding work to date. Their self-titled debut album is a bold and energetic statement, capturing the listener’s attention from the very first note.

The album was produced in collaboration with De Stevens (of Marlin’s Dreaming fame) and the band itself, resulting in an impressive collection of songs that are poised to make an impact in the thriving alternative music scene of 2023.
