Your 33 Black Angels have unveiled their video for “Dirty Europa Forever”, the opening track on their recently released seventh studio LP Eternities I, a psychedelic melange of spacey vocals overlaying languid dreamlike summer melodies in tune with the ethereal reveries of Radiohead and Spiritualized.
Regarding the track “Dirty Europa Forever”, Josh Westfal, one of the singers from Y33BA, elaborates:
“Dirty Europa Forever” is the sonic start of the Europa song trilogy, which includes “Viva Dirty Europa” and another to-be-released tune…DEF was recorded in NYC and Los Angeles. Claudia Perez went from NYC to Mexico and back to bring us her insectoid daydream. Effort and its bounty! We flew across the continent just to get the sound right for the leadoff track of Eternities I… This song came from chopping and inverting the chords of “Viva” and ditching decadence for romance. The lyrics return to the old Jarvis Cocker/Paolo Sorrentino dilemma: what to do when the party’s over and Rome has lost her imperial sway. All the stolen paintings have been returned but the buildings keep crumbling. The Emperor is bare and ill-equipped for swordplay. Your confetti-freckled face blinks dust forever and for all. Don’t cry, just remember you and me and dirty Europa.”
On the video, the filmmaker, Claudia Perez of the Zenoco digital arts company, adds:
“The video looks to represent a journey to a series of different worlds from abstracts to live footage being explored but always guided by a light. Which in a way represents the link between our hearts, higher self, and the trust that it will guide us where we need to be. That light is also powered by memories and love from all the people we care about which keeps us strong in the unknown whether is good or bad.
At the end, we see lots of lights just like the one that has been guiding our journey, which represents all other lights searching and discovering their own journey in this present time that together makes something greater.”
