NITE are Blind Imposters Lost Within a Gothic Dreamhouse in Their Video for “Inside of My Head”

Twins, not just by birth but by a shared artistic pulse, Kyle and Myles Mendes are the heart and soul of NITE. NITE’s music is filled with captivating melodies that resonate from their hometown of Dallas, Texas. Their unique blend of 80s and 90s new wave rhythms with post-punk rebellious undertones creates a powerful and emotional experience. Their latest creation highlights their unique songwriting process It’s a melodious amalgamation of their distinctive charm and dynamism, culminating in a mesmerizing and contemplative number called “Inside Of My Head.”

“Inside Of My Head” breaks away from the usual upbeat dancefloor tracks and instead leans towards 80s arena rock anthems. The song draws inspiration from various artists such as The Faint, Yes from the 90125 era, The Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, New Order, and Depeche Mode. The lyrics revolve around the challenges of imposter syndrome, and the grand production of the song is reminiscent of something created by Trevor Horn.

“We’ve all heard that voice in our head, the one that makes us question our self-worth. It tells us we’re outcasts, misfits, that we don’t belong,” says the band. “If you’re hearing that voice right now, we wrote this song for you.”

The Mendes brothers wanted to encapsulate their love of comic books, goth rock, and electronic music in the video for the track, particularly The Batman Who Laughs, which is a recurring theme for their upcoming album, Be Destroyed. “We took leather straps and drove spikes through them and wrapped them across our eyes,” they reflect.  “They symbolize how depression can blind you from being able to see anything good in yourself or in the world around you.”

The charming black and white DIY video dives right into the labyrinth of the psyche. “We imagined what Tim Burton could do on an episode of The Twilight Zone,” they said. “We spray painted a Barbie house black to create a gothic mansion, we also used other cult-y tchotchkes to set the vibe.”

As the clock of their musical journey struck 2020, the album “Sleepless” tumbled down the rabbit hole into the world, unveiled by NITE under the Cleopatra label. Following its descent, a cleverly reimagined remix of the album danced its way into 2021, holding a mirror to the original while adding a refreshing spin.

Then, as the leaves turned crimson in October 2021, NITE dimmed the lights, heralding their return to the shadowy labyrinth of their musical origins. They did so with a haunting dark wave rendition of Alice in Chains’ iconic Would? a cover that eerily echoed the nostalgia of a bygone era. Emerging from the veil of this shadowy tribute, they heralded the Spring of 2022 with a brand new single, Good Boy, which landed on the ears of their eager audience on March 18th.

The journey of NITE is adorned with star-studded encounters. They’ve shared their musical dreamscape not only with their loyal followers but also on grand stages with renowned artists such as Small Black, The New Division, A Flock of Seagulls, ACTORS, Clean Bandit, and Midge Ure. The summer of 2022 saw them embarking on a new adventure, hitting the open road with Vision Video.

NITE are touring with Empathy Test this year through October and November in both the US and Canada. Dark Force Fest announced NITE as a part of their lineup for 2024.
