New My Bloody Valentine album and tour confirmed by Kevin Shields

“One hundred percent” confirmed

Following the reveal of his recent collaborative track with Roxy Music alum and ambient music guru Brian Eno,  Kevin Shields has confirmed the release of a new My Bloody Valentine next year.

News of a new album was initially revealed through Shields’ announcement of his performing at Sigur Rós’ Norður og Niður Holiday Arts Festival in Iceland this December, where according to his bio on the fest’s site, it states he is  “working on material for a new My Bloody Valentine album to be released in 2018.”

Yesterday, the new album got confirmation straight from the source.

“Oh, we one hundred percent will” Shields told Pitchfork in a recent interview, in which he stated that the recording process for the album had begun last year, but stopped due to the analog remasters of Loveless and Isn’t Anything. Shields went on to elaborate that the new record has been evolving from its initial state as an EP:

Basically, the record started off as an EP, and I realized it has to be, like, a mini-album, because it’s going to be at least 40 minutes long. So it’s going to be an album, but I don’t really know how many tracks it’s going to be. It’ll probably be seven or eight, by the looks of it.

In the interview, Shields also stated that he plans to take My Bloody Valentine on tour next summer in support of the new records release:

“We’re going to play live again, so that’s always a really good way to guarantee that we’ll get the record done,”  Read the full interview over at Pitchfork.
