The announcement follows the confirmation by guitarist Kevin Shields of the release of a new album by the shoegaze legends next year—which was revealed along with the promotion of Shields’ rare solo performance at Sigur Rós’ Norður og Niður Holiday Arts Festival in Iceland this past December.
My Bloody Valentine have stated via their official Facebook page that they will be performing at Japan’s Sonic Mania festival, an offshoot of the annual Summer Sonic fest, on August 17th.
Nine Inch Nails are also featured on the bill.
Meanwhile, out now are the reissues of My Bloody Valentine’s first two albums, 1988’s Isn’t Anything and 1991’s Loveless, on vinyl.
My Bloody Valentine are quite popular in Japan—so much so in fact that there is an easter egg dedicated to them in the extremely popular video game Final Fantasy VII, which features posters displaying the title of a fictional theatrical performance of My Bloody Valentine and Loveless—with a woman on the posters resembling singer/guitarist Bilinda Butcher.
