Morrissey Once Again Releases B-Side Better Than the A-Side with “I Thought You Were Dead”

Two things are certain in this life. One is that Morrissey will cancel concerts, like the lion’s share of his Canadian tour that he was set to embark upon this week.

The other is that the former Smith frontman will release b-sides that are far superior to his A sides and album tracks.

Such is the case with the Mancunian singer’s latest biting ballad  “I Thought You Were Dead”, a new track taken from a special 7″ record released just for Record Store Day.

The A-Side on the release is the song “Lover-To-Be, which was originally featured on the deluxe edition of Moz’s 2017 album “Low In High School”.

“I Thought You Were Dead” features a Smith’s like rhythm section, overlaid with strings, leading the song into an overall dreamlike production that recaptures that 1960s kitchen sink nostalgia the Manchester band were known for, with a bit of Brelian chanson ala Scott Walker.

One can’t help but wonder here who exactly Morrissey is referring to.
