Montreal Coldwave act The City Gates Share “Cape of Good Hope” and More from “Age of Resilience”

Montreal post-punk/shoegaze outfit The City Gates returns with a long-awaited forthcoming LP, entitled Age of Resilience.  Drawing influences from 80’s and 90’s alternative, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Chameleons, The Sisters of Mercy, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Love and Rockets, Killing Joke, T21, Asylum Party, and Bauhaus, the band has gained acclaim for their vibrant live performances and searing guitar.

Age of Resilience offers an opus of eleven charismatic tracks of richly emotional melancholic soundscape, heaping on reverb, fuzz, and delay. Featuring the singles Cape of Good Hope, Siegfried, 1969 (feat. Vlimmer), and Roman Empire, the new City Gates album is inspired by historical and social realities of the last few decades. Age of Resilience references the lyrics of the band’s own single Cape of Good Hope, as well as historian Eric Hobsbawm’s trilogy The Age of Revolution (1962), The Age of Empire (1987), and The Age of Extremes (1994).

The City Gates has shared the stage with notable acts like Trisomie 21, Actors, Bootblacks, The Foreign Resort, Blood Blush, Nothing, The Veldt, Blushing, Deserta, New Canyons, Scene Noir, and The Stargazer Lilies to name a few. They’ve toured in the U.K, and North America; during the pandemic the band broadened their horizon and played few live streaming shows: DKFM’s DreamGaze, Independencia Sónica, and Dark Spring Boston.

François and Maxime from The City Gates also run the DIY post-punk/shoegaze/coldwave label Velouria Recordz, and are the wizards behind the Montreal Velouria Festival.

Age of Resilience will be out on the 9th of June 2021 via Icy Cold Records and Velouria Recordz on vinyl, CD, cassette, and digital. You can pre-order here.
