Aleksandr Lukashenko, aka “Europe’s last dictator,” is waging a war against the citizens of Belarus, beating and torturing peaceful protestors fighting for their right to honest, transparent elections. After Lukashenko’s forces arrested thousands, many remain missing Despite this tyrannical act, the largest act of solidarity in Belarusian history is being conducted without coordination, leadership, or even an internet connection on the first days after the country’s elections.
The artists featured on this international compilation aim to demonstrate solidarity with these courageous Belarusians and to raise funds for the Belarus Solidarity Foundation. This organization directly benefits victims of repression and injustice from Lukashenko’s forces.
From the artists:
“Kilometer-long chains of women in white with flowers are blocking security forces from continuing their violent suppression of entirely peaceful protestors. Factory workers on strike are having their lost wages supplemented by charitable contributions. And everywhere a spirit of joy, pride, and hope permeates this movement, despite the overwhelming repression and force with which they have been met. While Belarusians have real hope for a victory of the righteous, they need your support, your help, and your awareness.”
This album, released on Bandcamp, is comprised of 21 fantastic songs from all over the map: Molchat Doma, Chikiss, Princess Century, and more all donated some tasty darkwave, vapourwave, and synth pop tracks to the cause. A wonderful smattering of sound from an eclectic array of artists, the album is also a terrific gateway to acts you may not yet be familiar with. This is a fantastic album in its own right; all the better that it’s going toward peace and justice in Belarus.
