Ministry Performs Late 80’s and Early 90’s “Wax Trax! Era Set” Last Night in Chicago for Record Store Day

Some who braved long Record Store Day lines yesterday were able to score tickets to attend a special Ministry’s performance in Chicago last night.

The promise was that the concert would see frontman Al Jourgensen performing material that the infamous Chicago-area industrial music label and record store Wax Trax! had billed as a “Wax Trax!-era” set.

This, the first gig of six scheduled at House of Vans sponsored events in North America saw Jourgensen reunited with former bandmate Chris Connelly, who has been on hand as part of the touring panel for the Industrial Accident: The Story of Wax Trax! Records documentary and its soundtrack, whose screening has been part of the event.

Those who purchased the soundtrack to the documentary on Record Store Day gained entry to a performance where the set was mostly late-’80s, early-’90s Ministry albums, with three songs each from The Land of Rape and Honey, The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste and Psalm 69.

Three songs were featured off each respective album with Connelly contributing vocals to “Burning Inside” and “So What.”

During the encore the band switched over to a track from the Revolting Cocks’ repertoire, performing “No Devotion,” with Connelly once again joining in on vocals, followed by the 1,000 Homo DJs cover of Black Sabbath’s “Supernaut”.

The set closed with the title track of Rape and Honey and the recent acoustic arrangement of “(Every Day Is) Halloween”.

Ministry’s next gig this series of special performances continues in Brooklyn tomorrow, with dates to follow in Toronto, Austin, San Francisco and Los Angeles to follow over the next nine days.

Each evening features a documentary film screening, panel discussion, Q&A, and a performance by Ministry and Cold Cave.

Check out Vans’ Record Store Day site for ticket information.
