The first teaser trailer for Mindhunter season two has finally been unveiled, set to the music of Siouxsie and The Banshee’s 1981 Track “Night Shift”, a track about the Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe featured on the band’s gothic-rock infused fourth studio album Juju—a record about serial killers, snuff films, black magic, and Halloween.
This is an especially fitting soundtrack to David Fincher’s true crime Netflix series loosely based on the life of FBI Serial Killer profiler John Douglas.
Douglas was the real-life inspiration for the Thomas Harris characters Jack Crawford and Will Graham who last appeared in the NBC series Hannibal, whose finale featured the last new Siouxsie song in over a decade, “Love Crimes”.
Hannibal also featured the character Francis Dolarhyde, who at the time of the writing of the book Red Dragon, was inspired by the brutal killings of BTK, the long-unsolved murders committed by serial killer Dennis Rader.
In the teaser, the footage toggles back and forth between fictional FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McNally) speaking to serial Killer Ed Kemper about BTK—who would brutally bind, torture and kill his victims.
“This person you’re after, he has an overwhelming fantasy life, fantasies of what he’s done, what he wants to do,” Kemper says. “The real world won’t even compare.”
Ford and Tench also interview a number of other killers, for which the trailer also includes a glimpse of actor Damon Herriman playing Charles Manson. This is the second casting Herriman as the infamous cult leader, for he also stars in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, which is set in Los Angeles in 1969, and involves the Tate-LaBianca murders.

Season 2 of Mindhunter as well as featuring an interview with the Son of Sam, will also focus on the Atlanta Child Murders, for which real-life FBI agent John Douglas was involved,
The case, for which many of the murders are still unsolved, saw dozens of black children, as well as some adults, get kidnapped and murder from 1979 to 1981.
Mindhunter Season 2 will debut on August 16th,
