Somewhere in a sombre suburban prawl, where the quiet hum of forgotten towns lingers, Midnight Psychic takes shape—a duo as enigmatic as their name. Jayson Munro bends melody from six strings and voice, while George Moore pulls deep, brooding tones from the bass, both wrapped in the mechanical heartbeat of an ’80s drum machine. Midnight Psychic’s music, which brings to mind The Mission, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Sisters of Mercy, drifts like a séance conducted under the flickering glow of neon signs, a spectral murmur echoing through vacant shopping malls and dust-covered corridors. They call it goth rock, inspired by clown paintings, window blinds, and the eerie nostalgia of a world left behind.
Their latest single, Mixtape, unspools like a faded photograph, its edges curled with time, its colors drained but its grip unshaken. A relic from another life, its reels spin in endless repetition—names scrawled in red ink, melodies etched into glass, the past refusing to loosen its hold. Love lingers where it shouldn’t; loss gnaws at the bone; betrayal leaves its fingerprints. Pain propels forward, fear fortifies, but the specter of “you” clings, whispering through the static.
The music video drifts like a fevered vision, slipping between midnight and memory, its monochrome world flickering with half-lit truths. Echoing the eerie elegance of David Lynch, the stark frames of Anton Corbijn, and the brooding undercurrents of film noir, it follows the duo through a restless odyssey—two figures against the empty sprawl of a deserted highway, headlights slicing through silence. What waits in the void beyond the road? A love unraveling, desire turning to cinder, the slow-motion wreckage of something once whole. The mind’s deepest corridors whisper their secrets, and the night offers no answers, only echoes.

Midnight Psychic laboured over the song’s creation, discarding an early take in favor of something more fractured, more raw—a sonic desolation. That first version, Mixtape – Decade Mix, still lingers, an echo of what was, included with the single’s release.
