Michigan-based Gloom-Pop Quartet Damien Done Debut Video for “To Night”

If we can’t have tomorrow, let us go to night…

Michigan-based Gloom-pop Quartet Damien Done have unveiled their video for “To Night”. The song is a dark-crooning romantic number, steeped in the mystique of charismatic frontmen of the 70s and 80s, and leads perfectly as the title track from the band’s latest EP—which is available now digitally and via a limited edition vinyl issued through Mind Over Matter Records in the US and through Speedowax in the UK.  There is also a cassette version available via Contraband Goods.

The video for “To Night” was animated by Seppe Dausi, and of the song, guitarist/vocalist Damien Moyal says: “It’s a love song that takes place in the final moments on earth before some unspecified catastrophe ends us all, wherein the narrator faces his nearing death without fear because he can die in the arms of his one true love and their son.”

Watch the video for “To Night” below:

Formed under the neon lights of Miami and reborn in the post-industrial wastelands of Detroit, Damien Done dances the line between gloomy pop and rock’n’roll dirges, weaving unnerving tales through a distinct and narrative croon.

Abandoning his storied history as a hardcore punk frontman, through the To Night EP Damien brings to the table just about every other influence that shaped his musical perspective. Some songs are lush, layered, and delicate, betraying hints of goth and Brit-pop, while others are massive, gritty, and doomy, revealing cavernous metal roots. The vocals belong to neither world, instead, drawing comparisons to the sneering baritone of Billy Idol, Jim Morrison, or even, somehow, Neil Diamond.

Damien Done has released one full-length album and multiple EPs and singles and has played in both the US and across Europe. The To Night  EP, led by the single of the same title, is the most recent studio output. A  new LP is currently in the works.

Of the physical release, Mind Over Matter Records continues their tradition of finding unique ways to present the music, and the To Night EP is pressed across two 7″ vinyl records, housed inside of a hand-made, DIY gatefold jacket.

Order the vinyl version here, or stream it via whatever service you prefer.
