All of the feelings you hold
All of the reasons unknown
All of the people alone
Reaching beyond the soul
Jackson VanHorn, the brooding mastermind behind Memory Index, returns with a new single, “Transpose,” carving out hypnotic grooves and elusive truths under this new moniker. Once pivotal in TV Ghost’s nocturnal narratives, VanHorn now steps out into this new spectral space, mapping moods with sparse yet luminous precision.
Memory Index pivots gracefully into the austere terrain first charted by post-punk’s early pioneers, tinted gently with the oeuvre of David Lynch’s cinematic unease. With Transpose, VanHorn weaves rhythms dense with digital-age disorientation and emotional solitude, exploring tangled inner landscapes. The track unfolds with guitars that are bright yet restrained, draping delicate melodies across muted, yearning vocals that recall the subdued reflections of Joy Division and early U2, as well as the shimmering earnestness of The Chameleons, The The, and INXS. The song circles cautiously around life’s uncertainties, prodding softly at humanity’s collective isolation and silent aspirations.
Memory Index holds up a careful mirror to existential questions, delicately balancing doubt and hope. This music searches not for definite answers but for the glimmering possibility of meaning just beyond reach…a cautious optimism that nudges gently against fate’s heavy hand, seeking whispers of revelation amid life’s restless rhythms.

VanHorn’s earlier solo efforts, After the Rehearsal and A Silent Understanding, garnered praise for their shadowed elegance, evoking the austere eloquence of Leonard Cohen and Peter Murphy. His forthcoming debut album, Erosion, slated for release in Summer 2025 via Cold Transmission Music, further explores themes of memory, identity, and emotional isolation…and critically addresses the fragile state of contemporary American politics.
With a history of releases through Manic Depression Records, Icy Cold Records, and Already Dead Records, VanHorn consistently delivers a compelling blend of brooding intensity and lyrical insight.
