Musician, songwriter, and composer Philip Ekström of the much loved Swedish Dreampop band The Mary Onettes is back with his new solo project H.Moon.
Heralding a debut album due out later this month, Ekström has unveiled the record’s titular single “Trustblood”, a haunting soundscape awash in Ekström’s trademark ghostly reverb, augmented by gossamer backing vocals and shivering guitars, gentle percussion, and sighing synths that bubble towards the song’s crescendo.
Listen below:
The album, TRUSTBLOOD, came to life while Philip was working on the score for an American feature film ”Endings, Beginnings”, by Drake Doremus. The film is about break-up and separation, and while going through a period of comparable changes in his own life, working on the score enabled Ekström to tap into his own intimate creativity on the project. When finished writing the music for the score, he then took the leftover material, added lyrics and the result blossomed into the new project H.MOON.
Ekström describes the songs on the record as:
”small dark melodic ghosts from his soul”.
Trustblood is set for release on May 22nd through Welfare Sounds.
