Marry Cherry, a four-piece rock band from Austin, TX, has a knack for blending the psychedelic with the electronic. Their sound fuses drum machines, synthesizers, and overdriven guitars into a lively mix that doesn’t shy away from experimentation. Charismatic vocals cut through the driving beats, with guitars and saxophones weaving their way into the fabric of their tracks. Their style tips its hat to bands like Primal Scream, Kula Shaker, Suicide, and the Dandy Warhols, while also flirting with the sampling and hypnotic rhythms reminiscent of Odelay-era Beck.
Their latest music video, directed by Andy Ray Lemon, is a groovy, lo-fi trip down memory lane. It harks back to the early days of MTV, the kitsch of 60s and 70s variety shows, and even nods to the wacky quirkiness of Deee-Lite’s Groove Is In The Heart. The video seamlessly oscillates between Super-8 and VHS aesthetics, effortlessly transitioning through different eras with a slinked-back Jim Morrison-caliber swagger that evokes both nostalgia and timeless groove.
