Manoeuvres Against Melancholy — Dive into the Post-Punk and Shoegaze Reverie of Montreal’s DRØME with “Echoes Within”

Dance delivers a swift knockout to the fog of depression, offering an escape from emotional weight. In each movement, people unlock the feelings words fumble to express, finding freedom and release. The physicality fires up natural endorphins, kicking the gloom to the curb. And dance doesn’t stop there—it cuts through loneliness, igniting connection and focus. It pulls you into the present moment, far from negative spirals. Ultimately, dance merges strength, emotion, and social ties, providing a dynamic antidote for the soul’s aching.

Now DRØME, fronted by the formidable F. Dupouy and bolstered by bassist/keyboardist A. Tomeno, fires up those neurons and laces up those dancing shoes with the announcement of their new EP: Echoes Within on Velouria Recordz. The album is a blend of post-punk, noise rock, shoegaze, and industrial in the reminiscence of bands like A Place to Bury Strangers, Chapterhouse, The Soft Moon, Odonis Odonis, Trentemøller, and Soviet Soviet.

Suitcase of Memories kicks off the album with a hypnotic rhythm that pulls you into its kaleidoscopic swirl. The guitar work, sharp and slick, cuts through the haze like a knife, while the hushed vocals whisper unsettling truths. It’s a slow burn, wrapped in a fog of mystery and tension, that builds toward something just out of reach.

Depression Dance stirs a storm of sound, blending post-punk and shoegaze with a touch of dark electro. A stroll through a dreamscape, where reverberated guitars and delay-soaked melodies collide, crafting a bittersweet ballet of mood and memory. With Depression Dance, DRØME dives into a duality of despair and delight. The song spins tales from travels, merging haunting harmonies with hauntingly catchy tunes. Here, dance and movement become more than mere motions—they’re manoeuvres against melancholy, a rhythmic rebellion against the relentless grip of gloom.

June 23 slips into a deeper mood, with soft guitar strumming that wraps around you, while vocals float through like mist rolling in off the coast. It recalls the slow-burn elegance of Slowdive with a nod to the chill grooves of The Dandy Warhols and The xx. Then, In An Instant races forward, driven by a frenetic post-punk pulse, only to be split wide open by a surf guitar solo sharp enough to draw blood. The vocals swirl, eerie and hypnotic, while shoegaze fuzz thickens the air, creating a sensation that’s both haunting and enticing. Lost In The Haze rounds things off, taking the listener on an introspective, existential journey, with fuzz-laden guitar riffs that echo behind spoken word poetry, dragging you into the depths of its meditative atmosphere, bringing to mind Daniel Ash’s searing solos.

The Echoes Within EP is available on vinyl and digital via Velouria Records. Listen  below and order the album here.

DRØME will also do an album launch on October 4th with a record release in Montreal at Turbo Haus with The City Gates and Scene Noir, presented by Velouria Recordz.
