Lynchian Singer Laura Carbone Heads Stateside for a Series of Gigs

Berlin based Singer Laura Carbone is heading stateside this spring for a series of dates including three nights at Austin’s South by Southwest.

Ahead of the her departure across the Atlantic, Laura has shared with us a special live video from her recent tour in support of her second studio album Empty Sea.

Here is some background on the video:

“On Jan. 20th, 2019 Laura Carbone played the final show of her European “Empty Sea” winter tour at LUX in Hannover, Germany. Afterwards LUX sound engineer Murray Webster handed Laura a USB stick. “What is it?”, she asked. He winked and said, “Murray’s secret!”. The next day on the bus back home to Berlin she plugged in the stick and listened to the 2-track stereo recording of the front-of-house mix he had made from the previous night’s show. This live performance of “Nightride” is taken from that recording, the last song of the last show on the tour. No frills, no overdubs, just Laura and the band as Murray mixed it and the audience experienced it on the night. The video footage is a collage of stuff Laura and fans shot during the tour. A memento, a sweet surprise from Murray, now here for you.”

It is fitting that we make the announcement today, the 30th Anniversary of beginning Special Agent Dale Cooper’s entrance into Twin Peaks, as Carbone is a fan of shoegaze and Americana—especially Cocteau Twins—and the music of crooner Chris Isaak, as seen through her cover of his track “Blue Hotel”.

Issak played Special Agent Chester Desmond in the show’s feature length film Fire Walk With Me, and had his song “Wicked Game” featured in David Lynch’s follow-up film Wild At Heart.

Following Empty Sea, Laura’s most recent output has been her lovely collaboration with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart on the track “The Flowers Beneath Your Feet”.

Some of you might have been introduced to Laura’s music when she was on tour with The Jesus and Mary Chain in Europe 2 years ago, but for those you not in Europe, this is the first time Laura is touring stateside—since her well received introductory gig at SXSW back in 2016.
