Vuela conmigo, flor de la noche…
Los Angeles trio Darker Places sink their teeth into longing with Eternal, a swooning dirge of desire, delivered like a love letter written in blood. The trio (Alux Delint, Alex Maciel, and Rick Martinez) straddle the spectral line between gothic gloom and cinematic sweep, conjuring sounds that stretch from crypt to cosmos.
Landing somewhere between Bauhaus’s theatrical bleakness and Bleib Modern’s cold precision, Darker Places unveils a bilingual ballad to the ache of eternal connection. The darkly romantic Eternal opens with piano stabs that toll like cathedral bells over a damp, foggy moor. Textures swirl and shimmer, cradling a gorgeous baritone croon. Maciel’s voice, deep and distant, feels like a summoning of spirit, a breathless invocation echoing across synth swells and subterranean bass. It’s a song that seduces slowly, tangling around you with the delicate, dangerous gossamer of a black widow spiderweb.
“Even though Eternal is about a vampire glimpsing a potential partner, it’s also a reflection of how people today search for something real,” says Maciel. “Love isn’t restricted by gender or identity…Who doesn’t want to find true love?”
The video, directed by Matt (FEVR) from Of Sun Media, turns that ache into an operatic nocturne. Destinee Devile and Gladys Vera play out a tale of temptation and transformation: violet light, velvet sheets, a gaze from above, and a bite that breaks the silence. The girl in the canopy bed bears witness, then walks away…her expression unreadable, the ache unspoken.

Formed in spirit in 2019 and fully realized in 2023, Darker Places shed their nascent indie roots in favor of a darker, more honest sound. Their 2024 debut EP Seven Swords marked this evolution with six shadowy, propulsive tracks.
