Los Angeles Neo-Psychedelic Quartet Pearl Earl Debut Video for “Damage Control”

Los Angeles neo-psychedelic quartet Pearl Earl announces a new single and video, Damage Control. Founded by frontwoman Ariel Hartley (guitar/vocals) and drummer Bailey K Chapman in Denton, TX, Pearl Earl blends spacey prog rock and golden era glam rock, invoking the cosmic nostalgia of the past while carving new territory of its own neo-psychedelic universe.

Damage Control was written during a time where a close friendship of mine was severely strained and the world was in extreme disarray during the onset of a global pandemic,” says Ariel Hartley. “I like to think the hidden theme is the repairing of trust and coming out to the other side despite whatever damage has been done.”

The deliriously delectable video meanders through the madness of modernity, peppering us with surrealist images of smeared lipstick, graffitied walls, packing peanut explosions, and smashed tomatoes. Directed by the visionary Halsey Chaplin and brought to life by the artistic prowess of Customland, the video equally tantalizes and disorients.

The bashing sledgehammers only add to the cacophony of chaos, as the viewer is swept up in a maelstrom of knotted shoelaces and mad cackles. Yet amidst the bedlam, there is a persistent sense of order and purpose, a slow and plodding beat that guides the viewer through the madness.

The sweet crooning and curious key changes that permeate the video evoke the spacey sounds of Mac DeMarco, Donny Benet, and Tennis. As the video comes to a close, one thing becomes clear – there will always be chaos to contend with and undo.

All in all, the video is great fun and captures the charm of Pearl Earl well. Watch below:

The band has done several tours in the US and shared the stage with such bands as Oh Sees, Post Animal, The Black Angels, Acid Dad, Frankie and The Witch Fingers, Black Lips, Allah-las and played major festivals such as Levitation and SXSW.

Pearl Earl is releasing their second album, “It’s Dread” via Green Witch Recordings (NYC) in June 2023 and are available for touring USA in June July, August. Europe/UK in September 2023. Once described as “Pink Floyd in the sunlight,” the band’s live performances are captivating and euphoric…with an ominous grin.
