Los Angeles industrial trio Fact Pattern, originally launched in the early 2010s by the formidable Ian Flux, has undergone a series of iterations: shortly after the release of their 2017 EP, Structures, they entered a new chapter as a fully realized three-piece outfit with the debut full-length release of 2019’s Fallen Language. With nods to NIN, Skinny Puppy, and Type O Negative, the trio: Ian Flux (vocals, guitars, keys, and programming), Jack Lowd (bass, vocals), and Corey Hirsch (drums), blends heavy guitars, rhythmic drumming, and bass with metallic samples.
After hitting stages hard in 2022 and 2023, Fact Pattern is back, dropping their first fresh track since 2021 titled NEVER BLEED. The single comes alive with thunderous drum beats and a bass groove that’s pure dance floor dynamite, all while lush guitars soar above a rich bed of synths, setting the stage for commanding vocals.
The song’s lyrics delve into a world where defiance and tenacity reign, using the imagery of a towering sea wall as a backdrop for a story of deep connections and silent pacts. With love and protection symbolized by a sword, the song empowers listeners to face down life’s storms with unwavering courage. It’s a raw anthem for standing firm in the face of the unknown, a rally cry for the relentless spirit in us all.
Accompanied by an expressionist performance video directed by Flux (with a cameo by the darkwave polymath Bara Hari!), NEVER BLEED is a mid-apocalypse love song with some of the most dynamic and melancholic sounds the band has conjured to date. (Lady Macbeth may come to mind.)
