Blood Handsome, aka Los Angeles darkwave artist Gerren Reach, has just unleashed his video for “The Light”, the new single off his latest album, A New Calm, out via Young & Cold Records.
Dazzling the ears and creating a cult following with an eclectic mix of retro soundscapes, nostalgic synths, and cinematic undertones, Reach’s darkly optimistic songs have a unique place on the musical spectrum; we hear influences by Art of Noise, New Order, and John Carpenter. Pulling from his post-punk roots and mixing his moody instrumentation, along with brooding vocals, Blood Handsome continues to evolve and mold his unique sound.
The video for “The Light”, directed by Matthew Knox, was filmed during a live performance at LA’s Rubycon Records. The dark atmosphere and striking television wall provides an eerie retrofuturistic oeuvre that beautifully supports Reach’s warm baritone. It’s a straightforward, earnest performance, with just a touch of mystery to keep things interesting.
