“Although It Might Not Seem That Way—The Hottest Love Has The Coldest End”
Ahead of their performance at the 2020 edition of Grauzone festival in Amsterdam, Belgian darkwave duo Skemer have unveiled their melancholic and bereft video for “Heartbreak”.
The song is featured on the pair’s bewitchingly beautiful 2019 debut album, Benevolence, where infamous guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove of post-metal band Amenra, and legendary fashion model Kim Peers, collide in a sonic phantasmagoria of synth, guitars, and shoegaze vocals exploring themes of intrigue and duality, with melodies that are unstuck in time—altogether evoking the best of post-punk and goth over the past 4 decades.
The video for “Heartbreak”, produced by the band, sees the camera nervous and listless follow Peers and Vandekerckhove from a hotel room in Berlin, the Botanical Garden of Brussels, and the evocative brick-laden alleys of their hometown Gent, perfectly capturing the grief of love lost.

“Heartbreak” is the fourth single from Skemer’s debut album Benevolence, which came out on the 25th of October 2019 via Avant! Records.
