After teasing some forthcoming news last week, New Order have revealed that the disco-infused track “Be a Rebel” is the band’s first new single in five years. The song made its debut on BBC’s Radio 2 on Tuesday morning.
“Be a Rebel” is New Order’s first new material since the release of their 2015 album Music Complete.
“In tough times we wanted to reach out with a new song,” says Bernard Sumner. “We can’t play live for a while, but music is still something we can all share together. We hope you enjoy it… until we meet again.”

‘Be A Rebel’ is available digitally now and will be followed soon by 12”, CD and a digital bundle, featuring remixes.
New Order, were originally supposed to at present, be on tour with Pet Shop Boys, but had to reschedule their itinerary to this time next year. Next month also sees the release of the “definitive edition” of Power, Corruption & Lies, a reissue packaged that includes the 1983 album in a five-disc, multi-format box set that will include 13 previously unreleased tracks.
The band also has returned its popular 1987 singles compilation Substance back to streaming services after a long absence, complete with the second disc of B-sides. Listen below:
