Listen to Darkwave Artist Caress’ Dreamy Synth Infused cover of “Dancing Barefoot”

Following the release of her spellbinding guitar and synth-driven ethereal daydream “Love”, Caress, the solo project of singer/songwriter’ Tara Jane, has quelled her isolated unease during this era of quarantine by utilizing her unique brand of aural alchemy in her interpretation of 1979 the classic Patti Smith song “Dancing Barefoot”.

“Like most Artists during this pandemic, I’ve turned to writing music as a release. Isolating alone in my apartment I’ve cultivated this aching nostalgia. Patti Smith has always been a huge influence on me as a creative person. She has a way of turning these mundane experiences and objects into meaningful raw pieces of art. I think in times like these where a lot of us creatively are being forced into these overall surreal; yet extremely mundane experiences we can find inspiration in this. ‘Dancing Barefoot” is my homage, definitely one of her more ethereal songs. I’m really in love with retro gear and sounds, I record with vintage 80’s casio synths and all analog. I thought I would bring some dark wave flair into this song with more ethereal synth layers and brooding reverb-drenched guitar.”

Listen to Caress’ version of “Dancing Barefoot” below:

“Dancing Barefoot” was originally written by Patti Smith and Ivan Král, and released as a second single from the Patti Smith Group’s 1979 album Wave. The song was dedicated to women such as French artist Jeanne Hébuterne, the common-law wife and muse of fellow artist Amedeo Modigliani. Hébuterne took her own life two days after Modigliani died, and is now buried beside him.

Caress’ cover of Patti Smith’s “Dancing Barefoot” is out August 8th via Dune Alter Records.
