Caught in the crossfire
Traditions warring
Words turn to scars
Brooklyn synth-pop project Primitive Heart is the brainchild of multi-genre producer and visual artist Dani Mari. Mari’s haunting, ethereal voice and elegantly poetic lyrics transcend space and time, transporting listeners to a cherished spot in her soul.
Mari’s sound is difficult to pigeonhole; she has seemingly vaporized here from a hundred years in the future, with her soothing croon, atmospheric haze and ethereal presence. We hear elements of Mazzy Star, Chromatics and Beach House floating through her style. Now, Mari hands over the reins (and stems) to a bevy of remix collaborators for their unique interpretations of Underground. Co-produced by Rosana Cabán (Psychic Twin, Cosas Cosas), the album features remixes by Jorja Chalmers (Italians Do It Better), Fawns of Love, The Audible Doctor, Chasms (Felte), She’s Excited!, Neonach, death of codes, Orange Crate Art, Cosmos In Collision, Neist Season, and Skoddie.
