Listen to Alaskan Dreampop duo dreamcat’s Ode to the Analog Age: “Nostalgia”

On the streets, summer days through the lens of a Sony Hi8

Ridin’ our bikes to the video store…

dreamcat, a dream pop band comprising Em Glaves and Colton Ciufo from Anchorage, Alaska, is gaining popularity for their latest track, “Nostalgia.” This creative duo has seamlessly blended post-punk edge with indie cool to create lo-fi synth-laden compositions reminiscent of halcyon summers soaked in sepia hues. You can’t help but feel warm and fuzzy inside when you listen to their music while being whisked away by a Walkman-driven reverie to a time when love was expressed via mixtape.

The brainchild of Ciufo, dreamcat is a story of musical evolution. From tinkling the ivories in childhood to rocking the synth in a teenage metal band, Ciufo’s been on a true journey of transformation through the proverbial ‘dark night of the soul.’ Battling through the storms of alcoholism, social anxiety, and depression, music has been dreamcat’s lighthouse.

“This song is about how music can have a profound effect on one’s emotions,” says Ciufo. “It’s a reflection on the beauty and complexity of nostalgia.”

Navigating through personal renaissance, the goal is simple: pen tunes that not only lift dreamcat’s spirits but also resonate with anyone tuning in, no matter where life’s road has taken them. With a sound that’s as therapeutic as it is toe-tapping, dreamcat is on a mission to spread good vibes and great tracks – in Nostalgia, we hear elements of M83, Twin Shadow, Future Islands, and Miike Snow in their sound…and scenes from Stranger Things pass through our mind’s eye.

Hooking up with the wizard behind the mixer, James Glaves, Dreamcat has whipped up a tune that’s like a time machine to those endless summer days of the ’80s, but with a gloss that’s all 2024. Nostalgia is like flipping through a photo album under a disco ball, offering beats that echo the old-school cool classics while strutting firmly on today’s pop stage. If you’re in need of a musical pick-me-up with a side of soulful introspection, Dreamcat’s got your back.
