Leeds-based post-punk quintet AUTOBAHN (not to be confused with this Autobahn) are releasing their sophomore LP The Moral Crossing on November 3rd via felte (The Americas) and Tough Love Records (rest of world). The album is the followup to the band’s 2014 debut Dissemble.
Ahead of the release of The Moral Crossing, the band have shared three singles from the upcoming LP, with the latest being the track Execution/Rise which premiered over at Self-Titled Magazine recently.
About the song AUTOBAHN’s Craig Johnson says:
“This was a completely different song when we recorded it the first time around. After recording the guitar I muted everything apart from the guitar and drums, to find this raw, intense dance track. It sounded far more direct than anything we’d ever written, so we built the rest of the song around it. ‘Execution / Rise’ is a reference to being punished for one’s sins, but rising again!”
While Execution/Rise had a harsh and abrasive sound reminiscent of Leed’s post-punk past, the single Future is shoegaze daydream with haunted and subdued vocals and warm synths that a more akin of Scottish post-punk band The Wake, which is an impressive and masterful change in style and sound.

The album’s title track is epic procession of aggressive drums, guitars—whose vocals are dark invocations that resonate with an internal discord brought forth in such lyrics as: “I cannot lose you, I cannot change…”

The Moral Crossing is a loveletter to fans of a classic dark post-punk sound with influences ranging from Martin Hannett’s production with Joy Division, to The Birthday Party, and perhaps even the band’s hometown heroes, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry.
Pre-order the album digitally and on limited edition white vinyl in the felte online store.
