Kit Major’s “Potion Seller” Paints an Acerbic Portrait of a Desperate Soul With its Post-Punk and Alt-Rock and Swagger

Kit Major strides into the spotlight with swagger, guitar in hand, platform boots stomping, and a garage rock grin. Based in LA, she exudes the grit and glam of a bygone era as her music hums with rebellion, pulsing with a restless energy that refuses to be ignored.

Kit Major’s latest track, Potion Seller, comes at you fast and furious, a feral frenzy wrapped in fuzz. It snarls with the untamed spirit of No Wave, soaked in the reckless swagger of ZE Records’ wildest years. There’s no gloss, no polish—just raw, unfiltered power. Major doesn’t aim for perfection, she revels in the imperfections, the jagged edges, the primal pulse that drives the song.

Like much of her new EP, Love.Sick.Major, this track digs deep into desperation, exploring the ache of hopelessness masked by a fierce determination to find that quick, elusive fix. It’s a frantic promise to claw and fight through the dark, to do whatever it takes to keep the world at bay for just a little longer. The guitars grind and screech, the beat hits like a fist to the gut, and Kit Major’s voice slices through it all, bold and brash. Think a strange combination of Hole, X, and The Slits. Major doesn’t beg for attention—she demands and commands it, staking her claim in a world that’s often too polished for its own good. Potion Seller is an anthem for the unafraid, for those who know that sometimes, it’s the rough, the raw, and the reckless that gets you through the night.

The lyrics paint a portrait of a desperate soul, flawed and fumbling, searching for a quick fix to escape their broken self-image. The narrator feels trapped in their own skin—buck-toothed, depressed, and spiraling—turning to a potion seller for the “finest option,” a magic solution to transform into something better, more beautiful. Beneath the plea for perfection lies a self-deception, a willingness to sacrifice anything for fleeting relief.

Potion Seller is a song about wanting to feel better in your own skin,” says Major. It’s got this frantic, raw energy of someone constantly returning, desperate, saying, “Make me better!”

Major’s new EP, Love.Sick.Major, shakes things up—a fierce mix of post-punk punch and jangling Brit Pop riffs. Major’s interpretation of punk is unapologetically her own, a bold blend of groove-heavy riffs and unforgettable hooks that stick to the skin. With her EP dropping October 25th, Kit Major stands ready to carve her name into rock’s rough-and-tumble roster.

Love.Sick.Major is a world I’ve imagined, romanticizing a time I never lived in,” says Major. “…In a way, it’s one giant sonic mood board. Each track has its own distinct vibe, fashion, and mood.”
