King Woman Rises in Darkness with “Morning Star”

Returning to reign supreme with her sophomore album Celestial Blues, King Woman (aka Kristina Esfandiari) manifests an ominous, dense, cinematic new track, entitled Morning Star.

In a dizzying accompanying video, directed by Muted Widows, the camera circles incessantly around the mysterious smoking figure in an abandoned structure, we watch the fallen angel cycle into a trembling crescendo; it is a doom-and-gloom homage to Lucifer, by way of pop culture anti-heroes, modern dance, and the foreboding assembly of vultures ready to feast upon a meal of carrion. Kristina Esfandiari’s vocals lend beautifully to the dark shoegaze haze surrounding her, in a chasm of despair, longing, and escape.

Celestial Blues follows Created in the Image of Suffering, her stunning 2017 debut, produced by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Amenra, Oathbreaker), and features drummer Joseph Raygoza and guitarist Peter Arensdorf.

“Creating this album has brought me great peace and closure,” says Esfandiari.
