Kill Shelter Joins Forces with Agent Side Grinder in “The Necklace”

Kill Shelter is back with “The Necklace”, a powerful new single that enlists the talents of Swedish post-punk act Agent Side Grinder who appear in the song’s beautifully shot monochromatic video. The track comes off their sophomore album Asylum, following the critically-acclaimed debut Damage.

Kill Shelter is UK-based alternative artist and producer Pete Burns, whose remix portfolio includes Christian Death, The Wake, and Aleister Crowley, as well as She Past Away. Agent Side Grinder is a Swedish electronic band consisting of Johan Lange, Peter Fristedt, and Emanuel Åström. They have opened for bands such as Suicide and Laibach and are currently in the studio recording material for a new full-length release.

“The Necklace” explores the quest for personal sanctuary in the face of constant physical and mental abuse, following the dark themes on the album such as human trafficking, domestic abuse, seeking refuge, disillusionment, bedlam and redemption. “It definitely has a dark energy,” admits Burns.

The track is driving and emotional, with a hypnotic bass and buzzing elements bringing to mind the blocks to mental clarity in times of distress. This is music for those who need a boost in confidence to exit a bad situation; and for those on the other side who hope to make a positive difference.

“The Necklace is a metaphorical vehicle for building personal resilience when dealing with violence and abuse on a daily basis,” adds Johan Lange (Agent Side Grinder). “We had a shared vision for both the song and the video and it is a collaboration in the truest sense of the word.“

The moody, atmospheric video was filmed in Stockholm by Jacob Frössén and in Edinburgh, Scotland, with post-production by Pete Burns. It brings to mind the earlier work of Anton Corbijn with Depeche Mode and Propaganda.
