Kansas City Post-Punk Act Elevator Division Unveil Their Video “Summer Nights”

Trees become silhouettes

In a sky of deep blue

City noises fill the air

And I just want to be lost with you

After a fifteen-year hiatus, Kansas City post-punk darlings Elevator Division reunited in March 2020 with a renewed love for music and friendship. Now they’re releasing a series of new songs, including the expansive, gorgeous “Summer Nights.”

The song’s message is simple: the longing to hold onto the dark beauty of summer nights and the joy they bring with friends. It is a perfectly chill track to close out August of a tumultuous year, holding onto the small pleasures this life brings us. No matter what, this slice of humanity is something we all cherish. The track evokes feelings of Roxy Music and The Cure, while still sounding distinctly ‘El Div.’

The accompanying video, directed by Elevator Division and Nathanael Walsh, is a simple, joyous performance video set outside in the early moments of night, just after the sun goes down and the air cools, as music rings out into the darkness. You can almost smell the heavenly wafts of BBQ in the air.

Watch the video for “Summer Nights” below:

Since forming in 1999, Elevator Division have created music with a classic, timeless quality. In the past, Elevator Division has opened for Weezer, Cursive, Secret Machines, Pedro the Lion, Shiner, Sleeping At Last, and Starflyer 59, as well as television scores for reality shows. Elevator Division is currently writing and recording a new album.
