Kansas City-based Post-Punk Act Elevator Division Returns with Heartfelt Single “Torn Apart”

Like two trees that have grown together
Our dreams are tangled into one

For the first time in seventeen years, Kansas City-based post-punk outfit Elevator Division is releasing new songs, including their soaring latest single, “Torn Apart”, which, along with their previous single “Words and Pictures”, is a fantastic reintroduction to the band’s highly intelligent music.

The emotional track opens with gorgeous tribal drumming that drives the song’s ethereal guitar work, key-heavy melody, and heartfelt vocals detailing the guilt that comes with perceived cowardice in a relationship conflict. It’s an apology beautifully crooned.

Listen below:

After a long hiatus, Elevator Division reunited in March 2020 to play a benefit concert. Since forming in 1999, Elevator Division have created music with a classic, timeless quality. In the past, they’ve opened for Weezer, Cursive, and Secret, as well as licensing songs for television. Their friendship and love for music convinced them to stay together and revived their creative energy. The band is currently writing and recording a new album of new songs that evoke the aura of Roxy Music, Slowdive, and The Cure, while still sounding distinctly ‘El Div.’
