A lie, repeated, is no longer a simple falsehood. It is a tool, a chisel, a slow-dripping poison. In a relationship, each repeated untruth hums like a mosquito at the ear, relentless, eroding faith, grinding down certainty. A soul reaching for connection buckles under the constant sting as the liar smiles, assures, promises…but the cracks have already spidered through the glass. Over time, the hurt shifts inward; the injured heart no longer needs the liar’s voice because it has learned to whisper doubts to itself. This is how trust rots from within. Beware the slow cruelty of familiar lies that slowly steep in a pool of self-doubt and tears.
The Drowning marks the fifth and final single from SPETTRO, the latest offering from This Eternal Decay, out now via Trisol and Swiss Dark Nights. Dragging the listener back toward the band’s colder, crueler post-punk foundations, the track circles the slow violence of repeated lies; the way falsehood, dripped like water on stone, wears down love into ash.
A fan favourite during the first wave of the SPETTRO tour, The Drowning sharpens the familiar weapons: guitars serrated with sadness, basslines built like barbed wire, drums that thud like bruised ribs. Over it all, the vocals stagger and shimmer, filled with disillusion but still laced with stubborn hooks that snag at the skin. This is not a song about grand heartbreak. The lyrics navigate those small betrayals calcified into daily despair, the long erosion rather than the final blow. The Drowning plays like a slow sink into dark water, the last bubbles rising, reluctant, before everything gives way.

This Eternal Decay quickly established themselves with the release of their debut album, I Choose an Eternity of This, via Trisol Music Group. The album garnered immediate attention, leading the band on a tour through Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, including two performances alongside Samsas Traum.
In April 2020, they unveiled Silence, featuring collaborations with Then Comes Silence and Theatres des Vampires. Though the pandemic halted their European tour, Silence was met with widespread acclaim, prompting three reissues in just five months. June 2021 saw the release of Leave, a maxi-single featuring remixes by Kurs Lestat and an acoustic rendition with Luigi Rubino (Ashram).
Their third album, NOCTURNÆ, arrived in January 2022, boasting guest appearances from Hapax and Avant-Garde, with remixes by ACTORS, Ash Code, Wisborg, and A Copy for Collapse. It earned praise as one of the year’s best darkwave releases and fueled the NocTour, a 15-date European run with sold-out shows.
Momentum surged in 2023 with ABSØLUTIØN, released on May 18, followed by a debut live performance at Wave Gotik Treffen and a European tour spanning 30+ dates, including appearances at Castle Party, Prague Gothic Treffen, and Return to the Batcave.
