Italian Post-Punk Outfit God in a Black Suit Debut Dark and Melancholic New Single “Little Empty Head”

If you listen to The Sound
You’ll realize Punk is not dead
You will find all your answers in your head,
Your little empty head.

In a manner that only God in a Black Suit could muster, the announcement of “Little Empty Head” – the second single extracted from their forthcoming debut LP – echoes like the heals of suave wing-tipped shoes marching through the hallowed halls of the underground music scene. It is a transcendent culmination of aural experiences, intertwining the sinewy tendrils of post-punk and new wave, coalescing with the ethereal strands of indie rock and shoegaze. The result is a darkwave tapestry, draped across the soundscape.

“Little Empty Head” encapsulates God in a Black Suit’s musical charm, forming the backbone of their imminent debut album. The song’s pulsating beats and potent lyrics seemingly reference the iconic band The Sound, as it straddles the boundaries of gothic rock and alternative rock. The track’s melancholic and languid tone suggests a possible layer of irony while embracing the raw and unfiltered spirit of alternative rock. As listeners delve into melodies that echo the often repeated questions such as: is it “All in my mind?” and “Where is my mind?” this immersive composition will slowly envelop them in its bold and moody sonic atmosphere, encouraging a journey into the depths of their own thoughts, or lack thereof.

Listen below:

In February 2020 bassist Annalisa Laterza, guitarist Bruno Pantone, drummer Giuanluca Natrella, vocalist Matteo Demma and synth musician Pietro De Ruggieri started working on the drafts of ten songs. The Matera-based band released the Nails EP in 2021, preceded by the single “You Don’t Have Time,” which immediately received a warm welcome.

As the band takes center stage, they brazenly assert their roots in the haunting soundscapes of post-punk, new wave, and darkwave, casting an unyielding gaze on the past while steadfastly pushing forward into uncharted territory. Yet, their music is a melange of influences that surpasses these labels, drawing deeply from Krautrock’s hypnotic rhythms, shoegaze’s ethereal textures, and indie rock’s raw passion. This blend, however, is not mere imitation, but rather a unique fusion that is unmistakably their own, weaving together haunting echoes of Bauhaus, Pixies’ restless energy, Slowdive’s dreamlike melodies, and early Siouxsie’s fierce vocals into a tapestry of raw guitars and rollicking drums. But it is in the details where they truly shine, with each track revealing its own idiosyncratic twists of sonic effects and vocal direction, a strange and alluring world that begs to be explored.

“Little Empty Head” follows the single “Bittersweet,” which was the first taste of the forthcoming new album.
