Italian Post-Punk Act Hapax Dive into Heavy Gnosticism and Surreal Imagery with “Parallel Words”

Italian post-punk Act Hapax have unveiled another fantastic video from their third studio album Monade—a record which was released onSwiss Dark Nights earlier this year.

The video, directed and edited by Elio Nubes De Filippo, and Director of Photography Jessica Squillante of Studio Nubes, (known for their work with Ash Code), is a beautiful collection of vignettes linked together as the abstractions and “Parallel Words” mentioned in the songs lyrics, which are steep in heavy Gnosticism.

A dancing man, muted by a red ribbon: the band performing in a white room with a soft glow; a period woman being filmed with apples, and more, all under the fictional lens of a vintage Crown 8 Reflex zoom camera.

Watch the video for “Parallel Words” below:

Of the themes explores in the album Monade, the band had this to say:

“The album is based on the dramatic idea that there is a hopeless gap between words and reality and that each attempt to speak triggers a distressing conceptual catch. Language deconstruction unhinged the modern man from faith in words, conceived as an expression of the Absolute Truth. World coordinates become then unclear: we can either anchor in the past and look outside through the deforming lens of memory, or turn ourselves to the vision of a comforting but fictional Eternity.

This third release is a work about the impossibility to communicate since communication is just an artifact of the so-called “real”. And still, Monade keeps endlessly playing with the foolish (auto)illusion of its possibility.”
