Italian Darkwave Project This Eternal Decay Debut Video for “Perfection”

My face against the wall,

You buried me in silence

I can’t stand no more, not anymore…

I can’t stand no more, mediocrity is violence

Dark-wave project This Eternal Decay has been causing a stir in the Italian music scene, captivating audiences and critics alike with their genre-bending approach. Comprised of Riccardo Sabetti (Spiral69), Pasquale Vico (Date at Midnight), Andrea Freda (Spiritual Front), and Alessio Schiavi (Avant-Garde), the band weaves together elements of romantic darkwave, industrial rhythms, and synthpop.

Today the band has unveiled a new video for their latest single, “PERFECTION.” This Eternal Decay once again proves that they are a force to be reckoned with: fans of the genre will eagerly anticipate the May 19 release of “ABSØLUTIØN,” which promises to be a standout addition to the band’s already-impressive discography.

Drawing inspiration from post-punk legends like The Chameleons, early The Cure, And Also The Trees, and The Danse Society, This Eternal Decay delivers a melancholic yet direct sound; the lyrics expressing dissatisfaction with the status quo and a yearning for something more meaningful.

The accompanying music video, directed and edited by Riccardo Sabetti, is a masterclass in Expressionist style. Drenched in red hues, the dreamlike story follows a character’s pursuit of perfection, ultimately leading to obsession and the desire to escape from it. As the band performs in front of a towering clock, symbolic of the passage of time, the viewer is treated to a series of unsettling images that capture the mood of the track perfectly. The video concludes with a lovely musing from poet Debasish Mridha: “Life is nothing but a transient dream dancing at the tip of a leaf called time.” Indeed, this beautiful nightmare of a video beautifully encapsulates the sentiment.

The debut record from the band, entitled “I Choose an Eternity of This” and released under the Trisol Music Group label, quickly made waves among both fans and critics alike. Their sound resonated with audiences, leading to a successful tour across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

This Eternal Decay’s follow-up album, “Silence,” was equally well-received and featured guest appearances by Then Comes Silence and Theaters Des Vampires. So popular was the album that it saw three reissues within just five months.

The band continued to make an impact with their third studio release, “NOCTURNÆ,” which featured collaborations with Hapax and Avant-Garde, as well as remixes from ACTORS, Ash Code, Wisborg, and A Copy for Collapse.

After the success of their 15-date NocTour across Europe in 2022, This Eternal Decay is back with their highly anticipated fourth studio album, “ABSØLUTIØN.” Stay tuned for more updates on the album and upcoming tour dates.
