In the early 2000s, amidst the restless streets of New York City, Interpol emerged as the vanguard of the post-punk revival, carving out a distinct niche in the alternative music landscape. Their debut album, Turn on the Bright Lights, was a luminous eruption, swiftly positioning them as titans of the genre. With the release of Antics in 2004, Interpol’s stature was cemented, thanks to brooding, atmospheric tracks like “Slow Hands” and “Evil.” Over the years, the band has consistently delivered critically acclaimed works, culminating in their seventh album, The Other Side of Make-Believe, released in July 2022, which showcases their enduring prowess and innovative spirit.
This fall, Interpol celebrates the 20th anniversary of Antics, with a tour featuring the entire record. Today, they’ve announced three US shows in Chicago, Austin, and Los Angeles, bookending their previously announced UK, Ireland, and EU dates. Each city will host a special guest: Deafheaven, …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, and The Walkmen, respectively.
Tickets will go on sale Friday at 10am local time.
In April, Interpol played the biggest show of their career at Mexico City’s Zócalo, a place with enough space for 280,000 enthusiastic souls. Billed as a free gig, it was Interpol’s way of saying, “Gracias” to their devoted Mexican fans who have been there for them through thick and thin, and possibly through some questionable haircuts. The band turned the iconic main square into a sea of music and memories, proving once again that Interpol, much like tacos, is best enjoyed with a crowd.
