Dimitri Batsis, under the nom de plume Dans Mon Salon [dã] [mɔ̃] [salɔ̃] (French for ”in my living room”), has been creating releases since the mid-90s. His latest offering, “Pilman (featuring Manuel POV), is a homage to existential horror, where modern man observes his descent to revelations concerning ambition, materialism, and vanity. This song features elements of Front Line Assembly, Plastikman, and Nine Inch Nails in its sound, a menacing: sinister whisper juxtaposed with hard electronics and a hypnotic bassline.
“Pilman is a homage to existential horror, where modern man observes his descent to revelations concerning ambition, materialism, and vanity. A crackling soundscape blends with the electronic groove, and the rhythmic speech of Manuel POV starts developing an ever-charging tension; It is an invocation to Dr. Valentine Pilman, a character from the post-apocalyptic sci-fi classic by the Strugatsky brothers “Roadside Picnic”…POV growls “our picnic was fun, the trouble began, when we burned our home,” says the band.
The video, directed by Batsis, features vocalist Manos Gotsis. Watch below:
The moniker Dans Mon Salon works as a metaphor: it is a mindset where the personal relationship with electronic music-making comes to actualization. DMS performances often comprise vocals, synths, and machines of all sorts; An improvised electrifying happening where studio practices are brought to the audience through the blend of visuals, light and sound.
