Indonesian Dark Disco Duo Camlann Debut Video for “Your Death Is My Glory”

Indonesian duo, Camlann, comprised of Ony Godfrey and Fauzan Pratama, has come a long and winding way since their inception, evolving from their initial trad-goth sound to their current fusion of dark disco and gritty post-punk. Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of luminaries such as Xmal Deutschland, Clan of Xymox, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bee Gees, Grace Jones, and Prince, the duo has concocted a unique and captivating sound that masterfully blends disparate musical influences.

Camlann’s latest opus, “Your Death Is My Glory,” pierces through the veil of political hypocrisy and exposes the systemic injustices that plague society’s most marginalized. The song’s narrative, though fictional, is rooted in real-life events and underscores the band’s unflinching commitment to socialist principles.

With its searing indictment of power’s abuse, “Your Death Is My Glory” lays bare the bitter irony of those in control descending into chaos. The song’s blistering lyrics and haunting melody serve as a rallying cry for the oppressed and disenfranchised, urging them to resist the forces that seek to subjugate them.

The music video, a self-directed masterwork, is a testament to their DIY ethos and unwavering dedication to creating music with a message. The video makes deft use of stock footage, historical newsreels, and the band members themselves, cast as devious political demagogues, to bring the song’s powerful message to life. Camlann’s creativity knows no bounds, and serves as an inspiration to all who strive for social justice.

As they continue to push the envelope and blur the boundaries between various musical influences, Camlann remains steadfast in their commitment to creating deep and gloomy melodies that traverse a sonic spectrum ranging from dark disco to gritty post-punk, with no constraints or limitations dictating the direction of their music.

Camlann released their first two albums under the German Darkwave label, Cold Transmission Music. Their debut album, The Forgotten Lost Fragments was released on July 20th, 2020. Less than a year after, their sophomore album Circa 1983 was released on May 21st, 2021. As a dark disco duo, they released a song titled Midnight Euphoria on January 14th, 2022, and another song titled Charming Deceiver on March 4th, 2022. Both songs are from their third album titled Train to 86th Street which was released on May 6th, 2022.

Ony and Fauzan plan to continue to write more historically-focused music with their subsequent releases.
