Indie-Rock Outfit Elk City Debut Video for Jangly-Pop Daydream “Your Time Doesn’t Exist”

“Time is just a construct…in the end”

Time may not exist, but with Elk City’s new song “Your Time Doesn’t Exist,” you’ll certainly feel as if you’ve hopped in a machine to tumble through it. With a mid-90s alt-rock feel similar to The Paisley Underground, The Eels, R.E.M., and The Feelies, this bouncy jangle pop song is a gentle reminder to check in with our emotions outside of expectations and boxes.

Hailing from the mean streets of Montclair, New Jersey, Elk City is a supergroup of sorts, with members of Luna, Versus, Guided By Voices, and The Psychedelic Furs in its midst. Elk City revolves around its founders, artist/vocalist Renee Lo Bue and producer/drummer Ray Ketchem. With unique 1960s-style acid elements, Vocalist Renee Lo Bue channels her best Natalie Merchant with this song, which comes off as a strong yet breathy meditation with hypnotic repetition and beautiful tribal drumming.

Watch the video for “Your Time Doesn’t Exist” below:

The track comes off their album Above The Water, released via the new Magic Door Record Label, founded by Guided by Voices drummer Kevin March with Ketchem and LoBue. These three neighbors, collaborators, and friends launched the label with a simple mission to release music created by the rich community of artists who surround them. Ketchem, (Guided By Voices, Luna and Gramercy Arms), partnered with legendary studio designer George Augspurger to transform a cavernous warehouse into a freeform studio where vintage microphones, modern studio gear, and bespoke sound tuning elevate and inspire. The result is Magic Door Recording, where the band creates their “uniquely swirling dream pop for insomniacs.”
