Icelandic Post-Punk Witches Kælan Mikla To Issue Their Unreleased Debut “Mánadans”

Kælan Mikla are the best post-punk band to come out of Iceland since Þeyr and Björk’s Kukl. This is a fact that has not gone unnoticed, as the dark trio from Reykjavik have recently been in the spotlight by being asked personally by Robert Smith to play his curation of London’s Meltdown Festival, and The Cure’s 40th Anniversary concert at Hyde Park.

The band formed after winning first place in a poetry slam held by their city library in January of 2013, and features Margrét Rósa Dóru-Harrysdóttir on bass, Laufey Soffia’s  vocals, and Sólveig Matthildur Kristjánsdóttir on keys.

Last year fans of Kælan Mikla were able to pick up a limited edition cassette of the band’s Alison MacNeil (Kimono) produced first album Mánadans. The record was recorded between 2013 to 2015, but went unreleased in lieu of their official self titled Fabrika records debut issued in 2016.

In contrast to the band’s current sound, which is more cold-wave and synth driven,  the raw and more “death-rock” sounding Mánadans is now receiving a deluxe worldwide issue via Toronto-based Artoffact Records. The album, fully remastered, will be available on vinyl, CD, and digital formats, and includes the bonus track “Reykjavík til staðar”, as well as the demo version of “Kalt”.
