Ian Curtis’ Gravestone Has Been Vandalised Again

Once again the grave of Joy Division’s Ian Curtis has been vandalised, seemingly by an overzealous fan.

The news comes courtesy of Joy Division Central, via the archive’s official Twitter account. Photos taken by Ian Seivwright show that one of the stones has been removed from Curtis’ grave in Macclesfield Cemetery.

According to the post, top of the memorial stone was taken, with an attempt to remove the headstone bearing the inscription itself “Love Will Tear Us Apart”.

The current headstone was a replacement from a previous act of theft and vandalism that occurred in 2008.

Ian Curtis passed away on May 18th, 1980, at the age of 23, having grappled with epilepsy and depression while penning singles like “Transmission”, “Atmosphere”, and “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, as well as two studio albums Unknown Pleasures, and Closer.
