In a dance project delicately brushed with hints of decadence, Vanessa Rae Robinson (Sacred Skin) steps forward solo with the sophisticated allure reminiscent of the hedonistic splendours from the 70s and early 80s. Emanating an air of vintage glamour, Robinson crafts seductive rhythms that transport listeners back to a time when disco balls ruled the dance floors.
Her sophomore single under I Can’t Hear Cassandra, titled “Out Tonight,” receives a spirited reimagining by the hands of Pixel Grip’s Club Drippy (Jonathan Freund). “Out Tonight” is a deliciously dirty, irresistibly catchy track, but the remix takes it to another level entirely. “Out Tonight – Club Drippy Remix” is the first of many collaborations between the pair.
Robinson’s original melds the turn-of-the-millennium pop sensibilities with a deep appreciation for post-punk and Italo-disco nuances. Boldly identifying as both “libido-driven” and “unapologetically femme,” she offers an earnest synth-pop ode to the acceptance of one’s flaws and the discovery of inherent allure. In an era where digital perfection is often sought after, Cassandra boldly eschews the trappings of autotune, allowing her vocal melodies to flourish in their organic state, lending authenticity to her anthem.
The remix speaks to our more decadent inclinations – whispering, rather insistently, to cast away the shadows we fashion for ourselves and those cast upon us by the watchful eyes of society. Club Drippy’s richly layered, dark techno production pairs beautifully ICHC’s devilish pop princess melodies. The song swells, ebbs, flows, and hypnotizes; a perfect club anthem. One could almost feel the beat, robust and fervent, infiltrating their very soul, dancing in tandem with the elusive spirit of revelry. It’s a tantalizing waltz between reserve and extravagance, beckoning us to abandon inhibitions and embrace the splendours of the night.
