Capetown Post-Punk Outfit Holograph Unveil a Fairytale Puppet Show In their Video for “Forget The Things You’ve Said”

Capetown post-punk outfit Holograph returns in a more contemplative mood with a charming new video for their dreamy and wistful single, “Forget The Things You’ve Said”.

Trading in the brooding, jagged edges of previous releases, this latest track from the Cape Town band waltzes through its 3/4 time signature, gliding through tableaux and interactions.

The video illustrates the song with a classic fairytale told through vintage German hand puppets. Utilising techniques found in early Walt Disney animations, the story is about a spell cast by the devil onto an unsuspecting victim, forcing the protagonist to rescue her love from the evil wrongdoings of Beelzebub. It feels like a classic Punch and Judy puppet show; or a morality tale from days of yore, which juxtaposes beautifully with the song. It’s a clever take on the song, giving it a completely unexpected yet highly emotional theatrical element.

“The new Kasperle Theater is in town! Bringing you love, witchcraft and that wretched devil!”

Watch the video below:

Warren Fisher began Holograph in 2015, gradually expanding the lineup to include Ines Soutschka (Julia Robert), Calvin Siderfin (Dangerfields), Desmond Kannameyer (Runway Nuns) and Bergen Nielson (Bye Beneco).

Holograph’s music blends new wave, 80’s pop as well as country and hip hop influences in their mix. This eclectic combination of flavours creates unique; further enhanced by its members’ backgrounds in genres such as garage, indie, psych, punk and shoegaze. Holograph’s signature wall of sound is both freeing and captivating, with dense layers and depth of space.

“Forget the Things You Said” is their fifth single.
