This rugged ground implores you are the Queen
This cursed ground implores you are my Liege
Driving now, to your street
Can you hear me, or is She there?
Los Angeles darkwave newcomer Grizz CLL has been steadily building momentum in the city’s underground clubs, merging classic goth aesthetics with contemporary darkwave grooves and sharp-edged electronic beats. Now, he ascends to bold new territory, joining forces with goth luminary Debra Fogarty of Diva Destruction, resulting in one of the best darkwave tracks of the summer.
Diva Destruction first stormed onto the scene in 1998, propelled by Fogarty’s fierce creativity and unforgettable songs like the goth club staple, “The Broken Ones.” She swiftly made waves across both sides of the Atlantic, through landmark signings to Germany’s Alice In… and the revered American imprint Metropolis Records, performing in venues from Los Angeles to Leipzig, Germany. Fogarty’s collaboration with Grizz CLL marks a thrilling return to the limelight—an event eagerly awaited by old-school devotees and a new generation of fans who crave the brooding rhythms and emotional intensity of classic goth.
Her new collaborative single with Grizz CLL, Come Alive, throbs with midnight energy, reminiscent of Belgian new wave legends The Neon Judgement’s nocturnal anthem Fashion Party, yet revitalized with the stark, modern pulse found in contemporary acts like Boy Harsher. This is music crafted explicitly for after-hours revelations, delivered as a plea brimming with anxious urgency.
Fogarty’s ghostly vocal witchcraft floats eerily above dark, driving beats, weaving a hypnotic spell both seductive, powerful, and perilous. The song’s evocative lyrics narrate solitude and longing, articulating the desperate pursuit of a distant figure glowing like a beacon in the cold night. Lines such as “This rugged ground implores you are the Queen…can you hear me, or is She there?” highlight haunted determination and aching uncertainty, encapsulating the raw emotional weight of the track.
Fogarty’s presence injects authentic gothic sophistication into Grizz CLL’s relentless electronic rhythms. Together, their energies collide beautifully, channeling timelessness and nostalgia without any surrender to sentimentality. Come Alive awakens forgotten spirits of the dancefloor, reigniting embers of past passions with fresh intensity, confirming that these two artists have much more to summon from the darkness.
Grizz describes the collaboration succinctly: “It’s the ultimate song about a toxic ex—coming alive and returning to your old joyful self again.“
